India Triumphs at Grammy Awards: Shankar Mahadevan and Zakir Hussain Emerge Victorious

Indian musicians Shankar Mahadevan and Zakir Hussain, along with their fusion band ‘Shakti,’ achieved a remarkable triumph at the Grammy Awards by clinching the coveted ‘Best Global Music Album’ for their latest release, ‘This Moment.’ The band was captured on stage accepting the award in a photo shared by the Grammys on their official X platform.

In his heartfelt acceptance speech, Mahadevan expressed his gratitude to his bandmates and attributed their success to the unwavering support of their loved ones, the divine, and their home country, India. He concluded with a touching dedication to his wife, drawing an enthusiastic response from the audience.

The award-winning album, ‘This Moment,’ which debuted on June 30 last year, comprises eight captivating tracks featuring the exceptional talents of John McLaughlin, Zakir Hussain, Shankar Mahadevan, V Selvaganesh, and Ganesh Rajagopalan. Their exceptional artistry earned them a place among the nominees, alongside renowned artists such as Susana Baca, Bokante, Burna Boy, and Davido.

Notably, Zakir Hussain also secured the ‘Best Global Music Performance’ Grammy for his contribution to ‘Pashto’ alongside Bela Fleck and Edgar Meyer, featuring the virtuoso flute player Rakesh Chaurasia. This remarkable achievement resulted in a triumphant night for Hussain, who clinched three Grammy Awards, while Chaurasia was honored with two awards.

These astounding victories mark an exceptional milestone for Indian music on the global stage, showcasing the unparalleled talent and artistry of these esteemed musicians. The 66th annual Grammy Awards 2024, held in Los Angeles, served as a momentous occasion to celebrate and honor the outstanding contributions of musicians from around the world.
