Karan Johar to remake Tamil blockbuster ‘Pariyerum Perumal’ in Hindi?

Mari Selvaraj’s debut directorial attempt ‘Pariyerum Perumal’ (2018), which shed light on India’s critical societal issue of ‘caste discrimination,’ has received widespread critical acclaim. Now if new media reports are to be believed, Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions has purchased the remake rights to the Tamil movie and plans to remake it in Hindi with Siddhanth Chaturvedi and Tritpi Dimri in the major roles. Shazia Iqbal will direct the film.

There were claims earlier last week that Karan Johar was developing a Dhadak 2 starring Siddhanth and Tripti, but Karan quickly refuted those reports as rumours. According to a fresh revelation in Pinkvilla, it was this film that they were going to remake, but due to the similarities between ‘Dhadak’ and Pariyerum Perumal’s main premise of ‘caste discrimination’, it was presumed that it was Dhadak’s sequel.

The report stated “A glimpse at the film’s plot and one would know why Karan and co were contemplating on calling it Dhadak 2. The film is an intense romantic drama with a caste system in its backdrop. Karan and his team were bowled over by the film and have decide to remake it with Siddhant Chaturvedi and Tripti Dimri,”

Although there has been no official confirmation of this fresh media story from either the film’s producer Karan Johar or its key cast as of yet.

‘Pariyerum Perumal’ starred Kathir and Anandhi in the lead roles, and the story centered around a Dalit student who faces caste discrimination at a law college in Chennai. Anandhi and Yogi Babu both play important roles in the film. The film received widespread critical acclaim, receiving numerous awards at national and international film festivals. It was created by Pa. Ranjith, who is well-known in India for his outspoken opposition to caste inequality.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Siddhanth Chaturvedi will be next seen in the action-drama Yudhra, in which he will share screen space with Malvika Mohanan, who is also making her Bollywood debut with this film. Tripti Dimri’s will be next seen in Ranbir Kapoor’s forthcoming film Animal.
