When They See Us is the Most Watched Web Series in the US as per Netflix

When They See Us, a Netfilx original that features tracks of a 20-year-old case involving five black teenagers, arrested has emerged as a winner on Netflix. Stranger Things, Black Mirror, 13 Reasons Why and Orange is the New Black are amongst the most popular shows featuring on Netflix. However, When They See Us, an Ava DuVernay’s adaptation of the unjust arrest and proceeded conviction of five black teenagers in New York City after a rape in Central Park that took place 20 years ago has raced ahead to become the most-viewed web series in US on the OTT streaming giant, Netflix.

On Wednesday, Netflix took onto its Twitter account to share this information, mentioning, “‘When They See Us’ has been the most-watched series on Netflix in the US every day since it premiered on May 31.”

However, there weren’t any supported figures or additional information beyond that. The director retweeted on the same captioning her one-word response, “Faints.” She also posted a GIF video of the cast applauding from the series, captioned as, “On behalf of all the artists who made this series, thank you for watching.”

When They See Us has been created, co-written, and directed by Ava DuVernay and had premiered on Netflix on May 31, this year. The series chronicles the later events of the 1989 Central Park jogger rape case, exploring the lives of the five male teenage suspects, prosecuted on charges of rape and assault of a white woman and their families.

At the beginning of year 1989, when these teenagers were first interrogated and further prosecuted. The series covers a complete span of 25 years, highlighting all of their acquittal in 2002 and the final settlement in 2014.

The series features an ensemble cast, including: Jharrel Jerome, Jovan Adepo, Michael K. Williams, Logan Marshall-Green, Joshua Jackson, Blair Underwood, Vera Farmiga, John Leguizamo, Felicity Huffman, Niecy Nash, Aunjanue Ellis, and Kylie Bunbury among others.
