Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Deepika Padukone, Ranbir Kapoor, Diljit Dosanjh & More Join WAVES Advisory Board; To Attend Mumbai Summit in May

On April 16, Smita Vats Sharma, Director General of the Press Information Bureau (PIB) West Zone, along with Dharmendra Tewari, Additional DG, PIB, and Sayyid Rabeehashmi, Director of PIB, met with a select group of journalists in Mumbai to discuss the upcoming World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES), scheduled to take place from May 1 to May 4, 2025, at the Jio Convention Centre. Also in attendance were PIB Media & Communication Officers Sriyanka Chatterjee and Sonal Tupe.
Sayyid Rabeehashmi informed the journalists, “We expect ministers from 15-20 foreign countries to attend. This event aims to position India as a net exporter of content.”Smita Vats Sharma added, “We are planning a variety of cultural programs during the summit, featuring troupes from across the country. If time permits between sessions, there will be performances.”The presentation was led by Sriyanka Chatterjee, who revealed that the Indian Media & Entertainment sector is valued at USD 2.96 trillion and is poised for significant growth, with a potential market size of $50 billion by 2029. She articulated the vision for WAVES: “To establish India as a global powerhouse in the dynamic Media & Entertainment landscape while setting new standards for creativity, innovation, and influence worldwide.”
The mission of WAVES is to empower global Media & Entertainment leaders with exclusive investment opportunities through this premier platform. Sriyanka outlined that the WAVES Summit will be divided into four verticals, focusing on various media platforms: Broadcasting & Infotainment, AVGC-XR, Digital Media & Innovation, and Films. Key components of WAVES include a round table discussion with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and top global CEOs. The inaugural summit will feature conferences, breakout sessions, exhibitions, the WAVEXcelerator (an investment opportunity for startups in the M&E sector with live pitching sessions), CreatoSphere (a hub for creators), and cultural events.
Also, a Waves Bazaar, similar to the Film Bazaar at IFFI, will be established. Moreover, various competitions and tournaments will be held at WAVES, including the Anime Challenge, Animation Filmmakers Competition, WAVES VFX Competition, Esports Tournament, AI Avatar Creator Challenge, Film Poster Making Competition, Trailer Making Competition, and Theme Music Competition, among others. The WAVES team has already received thousands of entries across these categories.
