There have been media speculations since yesterday about Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions preparing to make Dhadak 2 with Siddhant Chaturvedi and Tripti Dimri in the major roles. A day later, Karan Johar came to Instagram to break his silence and put an end to the media speculations, stating that he is not “making a film with the title Dhadak 2.”

The filmmaker took to his Instagram handle and issued a statement in this regard. “To put this on record and for all concerned we (Dharma Productions) are not making a film with the title Dhadak 2 as is being reported in various articles,” he wrote.

Yesterday, a Pinkvilla report claimed that Karan was all set to spin Dhadak into a franchise. The publication quoted a source as saying, “Dhadak was essentially an intense tale of love, with two protagonists fighting the society to live together. The filmmaker believes that this zone of going against all odds for love has potential to get franchise value. After contemplating on several subjects, the filmmaker has greenlit a subject that qualifies to be a sequel to Dhadak.”

The entertainment portal also claimed that Dhadak 2 will be helmed by debutant director Shazia Iqbal and will feature Siddhant Chaturvedi and Tripti Dimri in the lead roles.

For the unversed, Dhadak was released in 2018 and marked the debut of Ishan Khattar and Janhvi Kapoor. The romantic drama was a remake of Nagraj Manjule’s critically acclaimed Marathi blockbuster Sairat (2016).
