Poor Performance backed with simple script failed to impress
It’s a busy Friday again with too many films releasing. One of the movies releasing this Friday is the much delayed movie – 31st October. The film is directed by Shivaji Lotan Patil, while it is produced by Harry Sachdeva under the banner his own banner. The film has Soha Ali Khan, Vir Das, Lakha Lakhwinder Singh, and Deepraj Rana in the lead roles, while Vineet Sharma, Nagesh Bhonsle, Daya Shankar, Pritam Kange and Sezal Sharma in the supporting roles. The film was supposed to release last year; however, with some controversy surrounding the film has made the delay. The film was even screened in the London Indian Film Festival last year in July. Now, let’s have the crux of the film as under:
Plot
The film is inspired by the true story and it focuses over the aftermath of Indira Gandhi and her assassination which has occurred on 31st October 1984. The story of the film deals with a Sikh family who has been the victim of the aftermath of the assassination. We know how the former prime minster Mrs. Indira Gandhi was killed by her armed bodyguards who happened to be Sikh. Considering her murder by Sikh, the people supporting Congress and the Gandhi family waged a war against the entire community not just in the northern parts of the country but also in the other areas. The film portrayed the family comprising of Davinder Singh (Vir Das) and Tajinder Kaur (Soha Ali Khan) and Yogesh (Lakha Lakhinder Singh). How their lives were affected after the riots caused due to the war is worth catching up here in this film.
Review
The film has been in a controversy for having the largest political party Congress along with their alleged role in post assignation riots of the former PM Mrs. Indira Gandhi. The director has incorporated a number of fictitious conditions, which could have created at that time during the riots and the way their lives have been affected the most. Thus in terms of entertainment it has not much stuff in it though it could be an educative film, which gives the insight about the post assassination riots in the 1984. The script is straight and simple, most predictable for obvious reasons since many of the audience catching up the film have a fair idea about the incident and its aftermath. Though the filmmaker has added a couple of things in order to make it unique and interesting but largely he has failed to deliver something extraordinary as the script has very little to offer.
Star Performances, direction and other things
The firm required decent performances considering the intense characters found in the movie, however, the director has failed to choose the right star cast. The actors in the lead role have failed to portray the right set of emotions which is required for the said characters. Had Harry Sachdeva had got the right star cast; the film could have been a bit very much different. The others in the film characters are okay but have failed to do much over the silver screen. Now talking about the direction and other things, the film is not that par as required, however, the film really demanded loads of other things, which could have added the entertainment value. The editing is okay and so is the music followed by incredible locations for the film. The screenplay and other technical stuff seems to be okay.
31st October Last Word
The film is inspired by real life incident however, the maker has failed to portray the right ways. The performances of the film aren’t that par as required in the film. The script needed some punch to elate its quality but the director has otherwise failed to incorporate. The film therefore has a low rating considering the number of flaws in it, which will even impact its business in a big way.
