Sanjay Dutt was the first choice for Nagarjuna’s character in Amitabh Bachchan’s Khuda Gawah. Did you know?

Bollywood’s iconic movie ‘Khuda Gawah’ which featured Amitabh Bachchan, Sridevi, and Nagarjuna turned 30 years old in May this year. It was reported that Sanjay Dutt was the first choice for the film. However, his role went to south star Nagarjuna later. Manoj Desai, the director of this movie has confirmed the genuinity of the news and also said that even Ajay Devgn was considered but couldn’t be finalized.

Manoj, in an interview with the news agency Bollywood Hungama, said, “Yes, Sanjay Dutt was signed for the role in the beginning. We even shot seven short clips with him. Even Farah Naaz was brought onboard. Woh Sath ki Saat videos doob gayi. It is due to the late Mukul Anand JI, the movie’s director who wanted to film his Pepsi and other ads in Nagarjuna’s Hyderabad studio. So, Nagarjuna was offered the role and without any other option in hand, we had to delete all the scenes of Sanjay Dutt and Farah Naaz. It also included a song. Then Shilpa Shirodkar was roped in instead of Sarah.”

Putting a full stop to fake rumours of problems between him and Sanjay, he also disclosed that Sanjay had already done a song Tamma Tamma which felt similar to Jhumma Chumma. He stated::Dutt was so much abused due to this subject that he went straight to Amitabh ji’s Vanity van. He then clarifies that his sudden exit from the project is because of Anand.”

Manoj also remembered that Ajay Devgn was offered the role as well. However, Mukul Anand decided to work with Nagarjuna rather than Ajay as he wanted the work to be done free of charge.”
