The famous dancer and Stage host Malika Arora Khan is married to his son Arbaz. Salim also started his career as an actor in the early 60s. He acted in films like Teesri Manzil and Sarhadi Lootera. But his acting career never took off. Due to his penchant for films, he soon took to writing scripts for films. Javed Akhtar who had also begun his writing career at that time, got in touch with Salim. The duo in no time became great pals and decided to work on films together. Initially Salim wrote the scripts for which Javed wrote the dialogues. The duo came to be known as

Salim-Javed and prospered with each film they wrote. They wrote scripts for super hit films like Deewar, Sholay and Don. All of them are remembered today as popular for their typical Bollywood masala scripts and have been made in different version time and again. It was in the year 1982 that Salim and Javed decided to call off their association. The reason is reputedly known to be some personal difference between the one time great pals. After 1983, Salim remained inactive in writing and films. In the nineties, he once again joined films with his writing and wrote scripts for Kabzaa, Toofan, Jurm, Akayla, Patthar Ke Phool, Mast Kalandar, Aa Gale Lag Jaa, Majhdhaar, Dil Tera Deewana.

None of these films created any impact. In Patthar Ke Phool, written by him, Salman Khan played the lead role.   This was Salman’s fifth film. Salim married a hindu maharshtrian lady named Sushila Charak who is the mother of his four children Salman Khan, Arbaz, Sohail and Alvira Khan. Later he fell in love with the dancer and oomph girl of Bollywood at that time Helen who is Burmese in origin. She and Salim have adopted a daughter named Arpita.

Salim Khan is one of the revered personalities from the golden era of Indian cinema. For his contribution to Indian cinema he has been honored many times. In January 2014 , he was awarded the life time achievement awarded at Star Guilds award.
