A Flying Jatt Movie Review

a-flying-jatt movie review

Naive Filmmaking skills hampers the strong message based movie

This week, instead of Friday the makers of A Flying Jatt chose Thursday to release their film. The reasons are obvious, they chose the holiday of Janmastami to hit their film in theatres. The film has Tiger Shroff, Jacqueline Fernandez in the lead role along with having the professional wrestler – Nathan Jones. Tiger plays the role of a superhero, while the Jacqueline happens to be his love interest. The film is directed by the known choreographer – Remo D Souza, while it is produced by Ekta Kapoor under the banner of Balaji Motion Pictures. The actors like Kay Kay Menon and Amrita Singh are seen in the supporting roles, while Shraddha Kapoor is seen in a cameo. The music comes from Sachin-Jigar, while the movie was made on the budget of 70 crores, let’s have a look at the film as under:

Story

Meet Mr. Malhotra played by Kay Kay Menon who happens to be a business tycoon who is known to dump all his industrial waste in a nearby lake. He is a stubborn businessman and is eyeing on the crucial land that owns a holy tree that is owned by Amrita Singh who has her son – Aman played by Tiger and Rohit played by Gaurav Pandey. Amrita and her family stands against the goons of Kay Kay Menon against grabbing the piece of land, which makes him hatch a conspiracy to kill Aman. Thus you find a fight between the two and soon the rains and thunder is seen and amidst the support of the Holy tree in this land, Aman turns into a superhero.  On the other side Raka is seen lying in the toxic waste that makes him a toxic superhero. Soon Aman becomes famous for being a Flying Jatt becoming the local messiah and on the other side you have Raka getting new power to kill Aman. So, what happens next is interesting to catch.

Review

The way the B Town handles the superhero movies is not very healthy and Remo D’Souza going astray is no exception. So, you have a superhero who does all the daily chores like buying vegetable, stopping at the signal and not that keen to flaunt his powers. One may find the idea of the spoof doing wonders but the moral science the director has on environment seems failing. Remo has tried to portray the same environment lessons one has learnt in text books in the same bookish style killing its spirit in a big way. The way the two superheroes sustain (one in fresh air and other in toxic) sound too naive in any film of such nature.  One may not call the film to be that bad however yet it happens to be a lame attempt to do so after you have a childish kind of storyline to cover in the film as if you are catching up any Chota Bheem series in a silver screen.

Performances

Looking at the performance of Tiger, he seems to be very much uncomfortable doing this film. Doing a film of a superhero with naive boyish charm supported by poor dialogue delivery has ruined him in this film of a superhero. Well, in kicks and dance he is awesome, however, in such roles of superhero he seems very much dump. On the other side, Jacqueline has a limited screen space and has given very little efforts to play her character, she was seen hot in the song Beat pe Booty, while rest is nothing but a waste.  Amrita Singh in her Punjabi mom role has done a decent job though she is slightly boring at times but overall is okay to consider. Gaurav Pandey does a decent job while playing the character of Tiger’s brother thanks to his excellent comic timing. Kay Kay Menon in his negative role seems extremely weird as his looks appear similar to his earlier movie of ABCD. Nathan Jones the professional wrestler while playing Raka is no surprise one cannot expect a person like him to act well over the silver screen. He only appears that big to scare you on the screen but has not much substance in him. Lastly Shraddha Kapoor in her cameo goes with an unimpressive move with poor dialogues.

Direction, Music and other elements

Remo has gone overboard in his overambitious film called A Flying Jatt making him a failure as a director. He is good in chorography but trying a venture of Superheros in such a naive fashion he has made his filmmaking skills questionable. Though his idea of presenting a movie with environment message may not be a bad thing but talking on the implementation part, he seems to be lagging behind. Action scenes and graphics are cool but many things in the film seem too boring and annoying. Even on the music part, it seems annoying and boring as it appeared to be very much forced ones on the characters and the film including both the background score and the songs except one or two.

A Flying Jatt Last Word

Though the film with a message on pollution and environment may sound a good idea but when it comes to implementation part of the movie, it has many flaws to check. The film has many silly things to catch for adults; however, for kids it may appear to be a movie with fun. Thus one call A Flying Jatt to be an adult accompanied with children with not much to catch rather seeing your kids enjoying from the funny superhero. This therefore hampers the rating of the film in a big way.

Rating – 2.5
