Her parents were her first learning institution for young Richa who started learning music since she was barely eight years old. She soon started singing Bhajans especially in the Mata Ke Jagran programs, which helped her carve her destiny in her initial years of her life. Besides, she also learnt other styles of singing and was seen singing with crowds of different backgrounds and occupations. Soon she was among the most sought singer in the town.
As she was busy, learning music and classic stuff, her education was sacrificed to a great extent and to pursue her dreams of becoming a singer, she finally landed in the city of Bombay in the year 1994. However, her struggle to pursue her dreams was not that simple, hence she kept singing for Jagrans at one end and tried her luck in the mainstream simultaneously. Finally she got the break with the film Salma Pe Dil Aa Gaya of Sawan Kumar in 1996 who she was seen following for a number of movies till Taal the big hit came in her way when A R Rahman gave her offer to sing a couple of songs.
Since then it was no looking back for her and she got the chance to sing in a number of movies, which include Zubeidaa, Saathiya, Hera Pheri, Khakee, Tarkeeb, Baghban, etc. Some of her popular songs include the sad song from Kal Ho Naa Ho for Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Mahi Ve from Anand Raaj Anand for the film Kaante, Om Shanti On for Vishal-Shekar, etc. Apart from giving her voice to a number of movies, she also was seen giving her voice for few albums, which include Ni Main Yaar Nu Sajda Kardi, Winds of Rajasthan and Piya, which changed her tone as a singer. Her first devotional album was Sai Ki Tasveer by SaReGaMa India, which was launched in the year 2011 when she inaugurated her family Temple of Saibaba.
