Renowned Film Producer, Journalist, and Poet Pritish Nandy Passes Away at 73

Eminent journalist, poet, writer, and film producer Pritish Nandy passed away today in Mumbai at the age of 73. The news of his death was confirmed by his son and filmmaker Kushan Nandy to Screen, although the cause of death has not yet been disclosed. Pritish Nandy was known for producing several notable films, including Kuch Khatti Kuch Meethi (2001), Kaante (2002), Jhankaar Beats (2003), Chameli (2003), Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi (2003), Pyaar Ke Side Effects (2006), and Shaadi Ke Side Effects (2014).

In recent years, he also ventured into the digital space with popular shows like Four More Shots Please and Modern Love Mumbai. Veteran actor Anupam Kher expressed his sorrow in a heartfelt message on social media following the announcement of Nandy’s passing. Sharing a picture of Nandy from his younger days, Kher wrote, “Deeply saddened and shocked to learn about the demise of one of my dearest and closest friends, #PritishNandy! He was an amazing poet, writer, filmmaker, and a brave, unique editor/journalist. He was my support system and a great source of strength during my early days in Mumbai.
We shared much in common and he was one of the most fearless individuals I’ve ever met—always larger than life. I learned so much from him.”Kher continued, “Although we haven’t met often in recent years, there was a time when we were inseparable. I will always remember when he surprised me by featuring me on the cover of Filmfare and more importantly, The Illustrated Weekly. He truly embodied the spirit of यारों का यार (a friend of friends). I will miss you and our times together, my friend. Rest well. #HeartBroken.”The passing of Pritish Nandy leaves a significant void in the world of journalism and cinema, and he will be remembered for his immense contributions to the industry.
