Bollywood star Rani Mukerji is poised to reprise her iconic role as Shivani Shivaji Roy, the fearless police officer who captivated audiences in the “Mardaani” franchise. According to a report from Zoom, the highly anticipated third installment is in development, with the script receiving approval from Mukerji’s husband and producer, Aditya Chopra.

The much-awaited third installment of the “Mardaani” franchise is set to grace the silver screen, bringing back the indomitable Shivani Shivaji Roy, played by none other than Rani Mukerji. According to a report by Zoom, the film is currently in the pre-production phase and is expected to commence filming early next year. With its release tentatively scheduled for late 2024 or early 2025, the film is poised to continue the franchise’s legacy of captivating audiences with its powerful storyline, impactful messaging, and Mukerji’s commanding performance.

The original “Mardaani,” released in 2014, struck a chord with audiences worldwide, garnering critical acclaim and commercial success, grossing Rs 59.55 Crores globally. The sequel, “Mardaani 2,” followed suit in 2019, earning Rs 67.12 Crores at the worldwide box office. With its unwavering focus on highlighting social issues and empowering women, the franchise has established a strong reputation for delivering thought-provoking and entertaining cinema.

Her last cinematic outing was in Mrs. Chatterjee vs. Norway, a drama film released in March 2023.
