PVR INOX Announces 20th Anniversary Re-Release of Parineeta in Stunning 8K Restoration

India’s largest cinema exhibitor, PVR INOX, has announced the special 20th anniversary re-release of Parineeta, the beloved romantic drama adapted from Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s 1914 Bengali novel. This re-release marks two decades since the film’s original premiere, Vidya Balan’s debut in Indian cinema, and also celebrates 50 years of Vinod Chopra Films. The entire film library of the studio has been meticulously restored in 8K resolution with remastered 5.1 surround sound, with part of the restoration work carried out at L’Immagine Ritrovata in Bologna, Italy, a world-renowned film restoration lab.
Originally released in 2005, Parineeta was both a critical and commercial success. Produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra and directed by the late Pradeep Sarkar, the film is set in a specific period and features a memorable music score by Shantanu Moitra. Starring Saif Ali Khan, Vidya Balan, and Sanjay Dutt, the film’s narrative is deeply intertwined with the architecture and atmosphere of Kolkata, which beautifully reflects its tone and themes.Vidhu Vinod Chopra expressed his pride in the restored version: “Parineeta has always held a special place in my heart. It’s more than just a film—it’s a journey of love, elegance, and soulful music.
The restored 8K visuals make the beautiful locations even more breathtaking. Pradeep Sarkar captured the grandeur of old Kolkata with timeless beauty that still resonates.”Niharika Bijli, Lead Strategist at PVR INOX, shared, “We’re thrilled to bring Parineeta back to cinemas. Today’s audiences seek to re-experience classics on the big screen. This film remains an elegant exploration of love, class, and women’s evolving roles in early 20th-century India, making it a jewel in Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s cinematic legacy.”Vidya Balan reflected emotionally, “Parineeta is where it all began for me.
Every frame carries a piece of my heart. I’m forever grateful to Pradeep da and Mr. Vinod Chopra for believing in me. The film’s magic still touches audiences and I hope new generations discover old-world love through it.”Saif Ali Khan called Parineeta a “turning point” in his career, praising its elegance and depth, while Sanjay Dutt fondly recalled the film’s heartfelt storytelling and his collaboration with the Vinod Chopra team.Winner of multiple National and Filmfare Awards, Parineeta will re-release across select theatres in India on August 29, 2025, for one week only, inviting audiences to relive its cinematic splendor in a stunning new restoration.
