People With ‘O’ Blood Group have lower risk of getting Alzheimeirs : Study

As people age there is a decrease of grey matter volumes in their brains. However, if you believe the recent study carried out by a group of Researchers at the University of Sheffield in UK, people with an ‘O’ blood type are less likely to face this problem when they age as compared to the ones with A, B, or AB blood types. The study discusses about different blood types and their roles in nervous system, which bring in risk of developing this disease among the senior citizens. This study report was published in the known Brain Research Bulletin, which has now become the talk of the town.

The Research fellow Matteo De Marco and the known Professor Annalena Venneri, from the University’s Department of Neuroscience, are the ones behind this discovery. They gave this study after studying and analysing 189 different results of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scans from healthy volunteers. They then calculated the total volumes of grey matter found within the brain and then explored the differences found in between several blood types. This study was carried out in association with the IRCCS San Camillo Hospital Foundation based in Venice, Italy. It showcased that people with an ‘O’ blood type are found with more grey matter found in the posterior proportion of the cerebellum.
