When the Aamir Khan and Big B starrer film Thugs of Hindostan was released, the expectations were at cloud 9. However, as the film failed to perform the way it was expected, amidst the failure, the brands of Aamir Khan and Yash Raj Films have remained steady high and went on unaffected. The film has crossed the collection of 150 crores so far and is going slow over the box office but the credibility of the actor the banner that brought up the film remains high and helping the film to gain more at the box office. We know in India, the box office has remained unpredictable, and in the case of TOH, it has proved the same.
This is not new in B Town, we have seen similar trends earlier with films like Race 3, which did earn a lot but at the end of the day was reprimanded for not having the kind of story it was supposed to carry. Similar was the story of the SRK starrer movie called Jab Harry Met Sejal when the film failed to even enter into the 100 crore club. All thanks to the weak story and improper direction, the film was unable to impress the audience. On the other end, we have experts calling the underperformance of Aamir Khan film to be an accident and that the actor’s stature is too high to come out of this debacle easily.
Although this man has given many hits like Dangal, PK, Dhoom 3, Ghajni and 3 Idiots to name a few. Even his film based on Mangal Pandey did a decent business when compared to Thugs of Hindostan. Similarly, Yash Raj Films has also given some of the best movies in B Town which have earned loads of money. Also, this will not hamper the relationship of Yash Raj Films with Aamir Khan as the two would appear once again with another film and recover the loss they have incurred with TOH. Since the making cost of TOH was huge, which has somewhere made the film underperform, otherwise in terms of story, performance and other elements, the film was decent enough to perform. Perhaps the audience was looking something different, which made TOH to under perform.
