Nick Jonas Explains Why Indian Fans Call Him ‘National Jiju’: ‘I’m India’s Older Brother’

Nick Jonas shares a special connection with his Indian fans and the paparazzi. Recently, the singer-actor addressed the nickname ‘National Jiju’ given to him due to his marriage to Priyanka Chopra. During an interview with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, Nick explained the origins of the ‘Jiju’ tag. Nick shared, “As you know, I am married to Priyanka. When we got married, this hashtag started. I was called ‘National Jiju.’ Jiju means the husband of an elder sister, so effectively, I’m like the older brother to India.” Jimmy Fallon even played a clip from the Jonas Brothers concert in India, where Joe Jonas and Kevin Jonas introduced Nick as “Jiju.”
On December 1, 2018, Priyanka and Nick tied the knot at the magnificent Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. The couple welcomed their daughter Malti Marie on January 15, 2022, through surrogacy. The name Malti Marie was chosen as a heartfelt tribute to their mothers. Malti reflects Priyanka’s mother, Dr. Madhu Chopra’s middle name, while Marie honors Nick’s mother, Denise Jonas.Aside from his personal life, Nick Jonas has had a successful career in both music and acting.
