Netflix and Ministry of Tourism Team Up to Showcase India’s Stunning Landscapes on Global Streaming Platforms

Netflix has joined hands with India’s Ministry of Tourism in a groundbreaking partnership to bring the country’s rich cultural heritage and breathtaking travel destinations to viewers worldwide. This collaboration aims to seamlessly integrate India’s diverse locales into Netflix’s original content, turning streaming screens into inspiring windows that encourage real-world exploration.
At the core of this initiative is a shared vision to blend storytelling with tourism promotion. Netflix India Originals will thoughtfully highlight various regions, supporting the Ministry’s mission to promote “Incredible India” on the global stage.Ms. V. Vidyavathi, Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, said, “This collaboration with Netflix reflects our shared commitment to showcasing India’s cultural richness and diversity.”Echoing this, Monika Shergill, Vice President of Content at Netflix India, stated, “India’s stories are as vast and varied as its landscapes—filled with heart, history, and unique cultural rhythms.
Through this partnership, we’re not only reaffirming our commitment but celebrating the soul of India. Together, we aim to create opportunities for local talent and communities to flourish and share India’s magic with the world.”Netflix has already spotlighted India’s diversity across numerous productions—from the Nilgiri forests in The Elephant Whisperers to the Andaman Islands in Kaala Paani, the fields of Punjab in Amar Singh Chamkila, the vibrant streets of Rajasthan in Mismatched, and the misty hills of Kalimpong in Jaane Jaan. These scenic backdrops enrich storytelling and inspire travel, mirroring global trends seen with shows like Emily in Paris and When Life Gives You Tangerines, which fueled cultural tourism in France and Korea.
In fact, Netflix has established the most extensive filming presence of any international streaming platform in India, covering 100 cities across 23 states over the last decade. This footprint has helped build local job ecosystems while showcasing Indian stories on the world stage. This partnership also marks Netflix’s first tourism collaboration in South Asia, expanding its global strategy of working with governments and tourism boards. Previous initiatives in countries such as France,
Indonesia, Korea, Thailand, Spain, Brazil, and Greece have successfully boosted cultural tourism through screen-driven storytelling. With the Ministry of Tourism now onboard, India’s upcoming Netflix productions promise not only compelling narratives but also a surge in destination-driven cultural pride and global travel inspiration.
