Delhi High Court Supports Karisma Kapoor’s Children, Rejects Priya Kapur’s Demand for Secrecy

In a significant development in the inheritance dispute over the late industrialist Sunjay Kapur’s estate, the Delhi High Court ruled in favor of Karisma Kapoor’s children, Samaira and Kiaan. The court declined Priya Kapur’s request to impose a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) or any confidentiality clause on the heirs before granting them access to Sunjay’s Will and asset list.

During the hearing, Justice Jyoti Singh firmly stated that no confidentiality order would be issued. After the counsel agreed not to disclose the details of the assets or case information to the media, the judge emphasized, “If they are bound by confidentiality, how will they ever defend their case?”By week’s end, Priya Kapur, Sunjay’s second wife, withdrew her push for an NDA and consented to submit the documents under sealed cover.

This judicial arrangement prevents public disclosure but allows full access for family members. For Karisma’s children, this means they can thoroughly review and contest the Will, which they have already labeled “bogus.”Senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, representing Samaira and Kiaan, criticized Priya’s stance sharply: “Two accounts have been wiped clean and a 6% share appropriated.

For me, there is nothing confidential. What is there to hide?” The court directed Priya to provide a detailed inventory of Sunjay’s movable and immovable assets to be shared with his mother, Rani Kapur, and his children—while ensuring these details remain out of the public eye. The judge also dismissed Priya’s attempt to create a “confidentiality club,” calling it an unfamiliar and unsuitable concept in Indian inheritance disputes.

This ruling bolsters Karisma Kapoor’s children’s position as they continue to question the Will’s authenticity and allege financial wrongdoing by Priya Kapur. More broadly, the court’s decision reinforces the principle that inheritance disputes require transparency rather than secrecy, guaranteeing that Karisma’s children will have their full voice in defending their father’s legacy.
