Adipurush Trailer: Prabhas, Kriti Sanon bring most epic battle on the big screen

Adipurush’s makers showed the film trailer exclusively to the fans on the eve of trailer launch yesterday on 8 May. After a day of anticipation, the global audience’s wait is over, as trailer of director Om Raut’s big-screen adaptation of the epic Ramayana, in which Prabhas stars as Lord Rama, Kriti Sanon as Sita and Saif Ali Khan essays the role of Lankesh’ has been released digitally.

There was a lot riding on the trailer because the film’s teaser ended up creating unfavourable negative word-of-mouth for the film, and the trailer needed to ensure that negative word-of-mouth was turned into positive word-of-mouth. And, unfortunately, after watching this new trailer, I believe the makers have failed to do so.

Every Indian, even those who are not from Hindu religion, already knows and is familiar with what happens in the Ramayana, therefore the major selling point of this film was not its tale, but its amazing visuals and how that story was presented on the big screen, and this is where the film falls short.

Almost every important part of Ramayana is here in this film, from Sita-haran by Ravan, Hanuman’s Lanka-Dahan, Shabri ke jhoothe ber, to Vanarsena building Ram-Setu, but frankly, the trailer fails to encapsulate the essence of Ramayana, and fails to evoke the same sense of fulfilment and devotion you should get after watching or listening to the story of Ramayana.

The BGM does elevate the scenes to some extent, Sharad Kelkar has dubbed for Prabhas once again in the Hindi version and it is wise decision by the makers because it helps to evoke the desired emotions. Interestingly Saif Ali Khan only has blink and miss appearance in the trailer. Maybe it was a deliberate decision by the producers to avoid the same backlash they received on Saif’s look following the teaser release last year.
