Malamaal Weekly 2: Riteish Deshmukh, Elvish Yadav, Paresh Rawal, and Rajpal Yadav Headlined for Sequel
The cult classic 2006 comedy Malamaal Weekly is officially returning with a sequel. Expanding on its recent revelation of female leads Parineeti Chopra, Raveena Tandon, and Shilpa Shirodkar, Bollywood Hungama has exclusively learned that Riteish Deshmukh, Paresh Rawal, and Rajpal Yadav will reunite for Malamaal Weekly 2, alongside new principal addition Elvish Yadav.
While Riteish Deshmukh leads the project, sources report he is currently reviewing the script before finalizing paperwork. Returning alongside original stars Paresh Rawal and Rajpal Yadav, the trio is joined by Elvish Yadav, popular content creator and Bigg Boss OTT Season 2 winner. This marks his second major Bollywood feature following his action drama debut with Tiger Shroff and Remo D’Souza. All primary cast members have verbally agreed to the project, with formal contracts underway.
Unlike a direct continuation, Malamaal Weekly 2 introduces a fresh storyline while retaining the signature chaotic energy of the original. The sequel centers on a group of small-town residents whose desperation, poverty, and sudden temptation for massive wealth propel them into absurd rivalries and escalating mishaps.
Amit Joshi, co-director of Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, is attached to direct. Joshi is currently refining the final draft of the screenplay, with principal photography scheduled to commence in November 2026.
The original 2006 film, directed by Priyadarshan, followed a lottery ticket seller named Lilaram who attempts to claim a deceased winner’s jackpot, only to trigger a chain reaction of greed among local villagers. A major commercial success, it inspired remakes across Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam. Malamaal Weekly 2 aims to recapture that iconic slapstick humor, delivering a modern comedy of errors for a new generation.
