Army Veteran Flags Improper Tricolour Protocol in Netflix’s ‘Operation Safed Sagar’, Demands Public Apology
Indian Army veteran Colonel Vembu Shankar has publicly criticized Netflix’s war drama Operation Safed Sagar: The Untold Story of the Kargil War, alleging that a scene featuring the Indian National Flag violates the Flag Code of India.
Taking to Instagram, Colonel Shankar highlighted a sequence depicting the funeral coffin of real-life Kargil hero Squadron Leader Ajay Ahuja (portrayed in the series by Siddharth). In the scene, the coffin is carried by actors Mihir Ahuja and Abhay Verma, who play Flying Officer C.H. “Baldy” Bal Reddy and Flying Officer Rajpal Singh “Dhali” Dhaliwal, respectively.
According to Shankar, the Tricolour draped over the coffin was positioned incorrectly. He expressed dismay over how such an oversight occurred during production, particularly given the involvement of official channels and consultants. “I am shocked how the authorities at the Service Headquarters and the military advisors have overlooked this fact,” Shankar stated.

Squadron Leader Ajay Ahuja was an Indian Air Force pilot killed in action during the 1999 Kargil conflict and was posthumously awarded the Vir Chakra for his bravery. The series itself dramatizes the high-altitude air operations executed by the IAF during the war, featuring an ensemble cast that includes Jimmy Shergill, Vinay Pathak, Adil Hussain, Dia Mirza, Sanjay Suri, and Barun Sobti.
