Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap’s upcoming gangster- thriller, ‘Kennedy,’ will be screened at the 76th annual Cannes Film Festival. The film, starring Sunny Leone and Rahul Bhat, will be shown in the prestigious film gala’s ‘Midnight Screenings’ segment. The film will not compete, but it has been chosen to screen in the special screenings category. Kennedy is the only Indian film to be presented in this category at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.

The Cannes Film Festival made the official announcement on Thursday via its Twitter account. “KENNEDY by Anurag KASHYAP #SeanceDeMinuit / #MidnightScreenings #Cannes2023.”

The only thing known about the film ‘Kennedy’ is that it stars Sunny Leone and Rahul Bhat. Rahul previously collaborated with Anurag in the thriller Ugly (2014) and his most recent sci-fi film Dobaraa (2022). ‘Kennedy’ will be Rahul Bhat’s third collaboration with director Anurag Kashyap. Kashyap will be working with Sunny Leone for the first time.

Anurag also made the official announcement about his film’s screening at Cannes 2023 by releasing the first look of Rahul Bhat’s character from the film. Rahul can be seen clutching a gun in the first look.

Anurag’s previous two directorial efforts, Dobaaraa (2022) and Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat (2023) received mixed response from the critics, and many argued that the director had lost his charm. However, with the announcement of ‘Kennedy’s screening in Cannes 2023,’ many of his fans are once again delighted to see him back in his prime, and many have voiced their enthusiasm for the upcoming project in the comments section.

Kashyap has become a fixture at the Cannes Film Festival. His multigenerational gangster cult classic “Gangs of Wasseypur” (2012) was screened at the 2012 Cannes Directors’ Fortnight, a Cannes Film Festival independent selection.  Kashyap’s thriller ‘Ugly’ received a standing ovation when it premiered in the Directors’ Fortnight part at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival, and he followed it up with thriller ‘Raman Raghav 2.0,’ which debuted in the Director’s Fortnight section at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival.
