Love is in the Air: Bollywood’s 2026 Slate Signals the Return of the Epic Romance

Following the massive success of titles like Saiyaara and Tere Ishk Mein, the audience’s verdict is clear: the era of the big-screen romantic drama is back. Responding to this demand, Bollywood has lined up a series of high-profile romances for 2026, ranging from cross-border sagas to highly anticipated sequels.

Ek Din (Release: May 1)

Marking one of the most talked-about debuts of the year, South sensation Sai Pallavi enters Bollywood alongside Junaid Khan in Ek Din. Filmed extensively against the scenic backdrop of Japan, the movie explores how a single, transformative day can alter the lives of two individuals forever. Fans are eager to see Pallavi’s powerhouse acting paired with Khan’s fresh energy.

Chand Mera Dil (Release: May 22)

After his gritty performance in Kill, Lakshya pivots to a much softer role opposite Ananya Panday. The first glimpses of Chand Mera Dil were unveiled recently, promising the kind of soulful, quintessential love story that defined Bollywood for decades. It is expected to be the season’s go-to film for fans of classic romance.

Main Vaapas Aaunga (Release: June 12)

Master storyteller Imtiaz Ali returns with a multi-generational epic that looks back at the Partition era. Featuring an ensemble cast—including Vedang Raina, Sharvari, Diljit Dosanjh, and Naseeruddin Shah—and a score by the legendary AR Rahman, this film is already being hailed as a potential modern classic.

Awarapan 2 (Expected Release: August 15)

Emraan Hashmi, the undisputed king of 2000s romantic dramas, revisits his roots with the sequel to his 2007 cult hit Awarapan. Reported to star Disha Patani as the female lead, the film has already gone on floors. The makers are currently eyeing a major Independence Day weekend release.

Untitled Kartik Aaryan & Sreeleela Film (Release: TBA)

Kartik Aaryan joins forces with director Anurag Basu for a project that has already generated significant buzz. Originally rumored to be Aashiqui 3, the film is currently undergoing a title change due to legal disputes. While its 2025 release was pushed back, the film—co-starring Sreeleela—is now expected to hit theaters in the latter half of 2026.

With these major releases on the horizon, 2026 is shaping up to be the year where heartstrings, not just action sequences, dominate the Indian box office.
