Little Thomas Marks Anurag Kashyap’s Return to Children’s Films After 17 Years; Gulshan Devaiah-Rasika Dugal Starrer to Premiere at Indian Film Festival of Melbourne

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, renowned for his globally acclaimed works like Gangs of Wasseypur, Ugly, and Kennedy, is gearing up for his next production venture, Little Thomas. This charming comedy drama features the talented actors Gulshan Devaiah and Rasika Duggal, along with the young talent Hridansh Parekh. After a hiatus of 17 years in the children’s film genre since his animated directorial Return of Hanuman (2007), Kashyap reveals, “Yes, it’s been a while. Maybe I was waiting for a good children’s film script to come my way. It’s a challenging genre to make an authentic children’s film, so it was important to ensure a good script before proceeding.” Kashyap’s dedication to finding the right story showcases his commitment to delivering a genuine and memorable cinematic experience.
Little Thomas is set to have its world premiere at the upcoming Indian Film Festival of Melbourne. The film is backed by a talented team including Ranjan Singh, Rajnikant Oza, Charu Oza, Anushka Shah, and Kabir Ahuja.Impressed by the vision of National Award-winning director Kaushal Oza, who makes his feature directorial debut with Little Thomas, Kashyap shares his admiration for Oza’s approach. Kashyap explains, “I had seen Kaushal’s short film ‘The Miniaturist of Junagadh’ and liked it. Then, when I read the script for Little Thomas, I understood his vision. He wanted to create an authentic children’s film, presenting the world from a child’s perspective. The honesty in his approach has truly enhanced the film.
Set in 90s Goa, the story revolves around Thomas, the only child of his parents, who yearns for a little brother. When he learns that his parents need to kiss to have a baby, Thomas takes it upon himself to make them perform this “yucky act” since they no longer kiss due to their constant quarrels. The film promises a tragi-comic journey as Thomas endeavors to bring his parents together. Gulshan Devaiah, who has previously collaborated with Kashyap on projects like That Girl in Yellow Boots, Shaitan, and Hunterrr, describes Little Thomas as a film that brings a smile to his face. With Kashyap’s expertise and the talented cast and crew, Little Thomas holds great promise to captivate audiences with its heartwarming storytelling and relatable characters.
