Gone is the trend when actresses in Malayalam would take a long hiatus after their marriage. Lena is one of those actresses who are incessantly active on the Malayalam screen making no qualms about it. Lena , known for her roles in Traffic, Randam Bhavam, Big B, 2 Hariharan Nagar, in Ghost House Inn etc., has matured as an actress over the years. She has improved with each role and has won oodles of awards and recognition right from the start of her career. Lena’s journey in Malayalam industry is a slow and steady one.
Early Life and Famliy: After completing her schooling from Thrissur, Lena moved to Mumbai to complete her post graduation in clinical Psychology. This was followed by a short stint as a clinical psychologist in Mumbai. Later, as Lena herself revealed in an interview, she lost interest in her work and decided that she was not born for this work. She decided to return to Kerala to pursue her career in acting. Many films, serials and advertisements came her way ever since she took up acting professionally.
Lena in TV serials: Omanathingal Pakshi got the big breakthrough on Malayalam television; Lena played the role of a single mother. This character struck the right chords with the audience and Lena was then a household name.
Later, Lena won brownie points with Thadangal Palayalam, Malayogam, Aranazhika Neram, Ohari, Pattukalude Pattu all were popular.
Lena on the Silver screen: Lena mostly essayed the roles of supporting actresses in films with little potential in the roles until she was cast in a major role in Traffic. This Kunjacko Boban starrer film won her best actress in a supporting role in South Indian International movie awards in 2011. Also Filmfare awards South 2012, Kerala Critics award, Amrita Film awards, Reporter TV film awards were bagged by her.
Lena’s other notable works are in the film: Bachelor Party, Spirit, Doctor Innocent Anu, Ee Aduthakalathu, Naughty Professor, Aaru Sundarikalude Katha and Left Right Left.
Lena in Recent Films: Recently played a key role in the family drama Oru Mutasshi Gadha. She played the daughter in law of the lead character. A working woman who struggles to cope up with the nagging nature of her mother in law, Lena portrays her character as real.
Marriage and Family Life: Lena married Abhilash who was also active in the film industry. Abhilash wrote the script for the film 22 Female Kottayam. Lena and Abhilash separated in 2013.
Lena’s simplicity in portrayal of her characters makes her endearing to the audience. Be it the small screen or the silver screen, Lena is natural as well as true to her work. Lena shows utter dedication to her profession.
