Legal Complaints Filed Against Prakash Raj Over Alleged Comments on Ramayana
Actor Prakash Raj is at the center of a legal controversy following accusations that he made “defamatory and malicious” remarks regarding the Ramayana. The complaints, filed by political and religious figures, allege that the actor’s comments disrespected Hindu beliefs and distorted the sacred epic.
Bhanu Prakash, a BJP leader from Andhra Pradesh and a board member of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), lodged an official complaint seeking legal action against the actor. He argued that such statements have the potential to disrupt communal harmony and urged authorities to hold both the actor and those supporting the remarks accountable.
Roots of the Controversy
The issue traces back to an appearance by Prakash Raj at the Kerala Literature Festival in January. During the event, the actor described a children’s theatre production that reimagined traditional figures like Rama, Lakshmana, Ravana, and Shurpanakha. The pressure on the actor intensified on April 16, when advocate Amita Sachdeva filed a separate complaint. Identifying as a devout Hindu, Sachdeva alleged that the actor’s remarks were a deliberate attempt to offend religious sentiments and insult Sanatan Dharma.
