The Mumbai Crime Branch’s economic offence wing has arrested the Madras Cafe actress Leena Maria Paul and her partner Sekhar Chandrashekhar in the allegation of cheating with their investor. The two along four more people were sent out to the police custody till 4th of June. A case has been registered under the sections 420, 120 (B) of IPC along with the sections 3 and 4 of the Prize Chits and the Money Circulation Scheme (Banning) Act of 1978.
Mr. Dhananjay Kamlakar the Joint Commissioner of Police informed the reporters that they used to impress the low profile investors with their high end lifestyle, which gave the impression that they had good bank balance. The investors were able to draw high returns, which had drawn towards him. The duo have no fixed source of income. As per the officials, the two had seen starting up an investment firm, which promised them a good return on investment that can toll to around 10 times the invested amount in shorter duration of time. As per the police, the two were seen operating from one of the areas in Andheri.
The police has recovered documents including certificates, handwritten calculations, which were being seized from the premises during the raid carried out by the police. There were around 117 imported watches worth the cost of around 1.17 crores and 3,50,000 in cash. As per the police, there were nine different luxury cars like Audi, Bentley, Mercedes, Maserati, Nissan and Tata Safari, which comes at the cost of around 6.5 crores, which were seized by the police.
