aamir in lagaan

The day when Salman Khan got a big relief from Bombay High Court, the other popular Khan – Aamir Khan and his Lagaan team too was seen getting the same. This Friday the Gujarat High Court was seen dropping the criminal proceedings against Aamir and six other people from the Lagaan team. A case was registered against killing of Chinkaras during the shooting of Lagaan in the Kutch area in the year 2000.

As per experts, this is among the rare cases, which has unnessarily led good amount of harrassment, pain and agony to the petitioners and the case has even harmed the reputation of the filmmaking team. The judge while rejecting the FIR said that the case is firvolous, absurd, imaginary and false. The case was filed by assistant forest conservator of Kutch range under the Wildlife Protection Act. He said that there is no evidence against the team for crimes like animal poaching in the area. Aamir’s lawyer claimed that the scene of killing the chinkaras were created inside the studio using software graphics.

The GHC has simply pulled out the complaint, which was registered without any evidence. The forest department on the basis of their primary investigations in 2006 had registered the case, however, it was reopened on the complaint of a known environmental group called Gir Youth Nature Club. This complaint was filed after Aamir had given his statement in connection with the NBA (Narmada Bachao Andolan) creating a stir in the same year. This simply followed a massive protest against the actor, while Aamir’s movie Fana was also boycotted in the state.
