Kuch Kuch Hota Hai Actor Sana Saeed Reveals 10-Year Battle with Bulimia: “For Six Years I Had No Name for It”

Actor Sana Saeed who captured hearts as young Anjali in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai has opened up about her deeply personal, decade-long struggle with Bulimia. Now running her own production company in Los Angeles, Saeed shared details of her journey toward recovery in a candid interview with Hindustan Times, aiming to break the silence and stigma surrounding eating disorders.
A Decade of Struggle and Recovery
Sana revealed that for the first six years of her condition, she suffered in isolation without understanding what she was experiencing. It took another four years after discovering her diagnosis to achieve full recovery.
“For six years, I had no name for what I was going through,” Sana shared, recalling how shame made her feel entirely alone. “I was desperate to get better and find a healthy way to eat. Eventually, I came across a book on recovery that gave me the language for what I was actually dealing with.”
Industry Pressures and Body Image Under Scrutiny
Reflecting on her years as a young actor, including her role in Student of the Year, Sana discussed how societal and industry expectations affected her relationship with her body:
Normalizing Unhealthy Habits: College conversations frequently revolved around extreme dieting and weight loss.
On-Camera Scrutiny: “Being on camera, being commented on, having your appearance be part of the job description,” she noted, made it difficult to separate her self-worth from her appearance—a boundary she only learned to build after getting help.
Why She Decided to Speak Out
Having fully healed, Sana chose to share her story publicly to offer comfort to others facing similar mental health and eating disorder battles.
“Now that I’m healed, it matters to me deeply that if my story helps even one person feel less alone in theirs, that’s worth more than the discomfort of being vulnerable in public.”
