Konkona Sen Sharma to Star in International Film Mis(s)Chief with Carlos Bardem, Selected for 2025 Sundance Labs

Acclaimed actress Konkona Sen Sharma, known for her remarkable performances in films like Omkara, Wake Up Sid, and Life…In A Metro, has landed a role in an exciting international film titled Mis(s)Chief. Directed by Anu Vaidyanathan, the film will also feature Spanish actor Carlos Bardem, who is the brother of Oscar-winning actor Javier Bardem. The announcement was made during the Film Bazaar in Goa, generating significant buzz in the film community.
Mis(s)Chief is a collaboration between UK and India-based Avani Films and is currently in the development stage. Notably, it has advanced to the second round of the 2025 Sundance Development Labs, marking it as a selected entry, as reported by Variety. The film is described as a comedy that follows the story of Rumi, a mother of two who is trying to carve out a career as a filmmaker. Rumi faces the challenges of a troubled marriage, her children’s relentless homework, and unexpected troubles with a gangster she inadvertently offends.In terms of production, British filmmaker Peter Weber will serve as the Executive Producer, while Emmy-nominated casting director Nancy Bishop will oversee the casting process.
Konkona expressed her excitement about the project, stating, “I am thrilled by the comic premise, the portrayal of women, and the writing itself.”Director Anu Vaidyanathan shared her thoughts on casting Konkona, noting that the actress’s real-life experiences resonate with Rumi’s character, who is balancing parenting and filmmaking. Vaidyanathan expressed her enthusiasm for working with both Konkona and Carlos to bring this engaging story to life.Recently, Konkona was seen in the comedy crime thriller web series Killer Soup, where she starred alongside Manoj Bajpayee. Directed by Abhishek Chaubey, the series was released on Netflix, further showcasing her versatility as an actress.
