Actress-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut has taken aim at Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, labeling him a “mess” and accusing him of merely “chasing a chair.” In an interview with India Today, she criticized Gandhi’s speeches and conduct, stating, “He is a mess. He is a mess in his speeches, in his conduct.” Ranaut also condemned Gandhi for displaying images of Lord Shiva during a Lok Sabha speech, suggesting he should undergo drug testing for such behavior. She expressed her belief that Gandhi lacks a cohesive vision as a leader, claiming, “It seems that he doesn’t have a decisive idea of who he is. He is only chasing a chair, and every time he is changing his path.”
Kangana’s comments come in the wake of her controversial remarks regarding the farmers’ protests, where she alleged that “bodies were seen hanging” and “rapes were taking place.” She warned that the protests could have spiraled into civil unrest akin to Bangladesh if the government hadn’t enforced strong measures.
In response, Rahul Gandhi criticized the Modi government’s propaganda machine for continuously insulting farmers. He posted on X, stating, “The BJP MP calling the farmers who sacrificed 700 comrades during the 378-day marathon struggle as rapists is further evidence of the BJP’s anti-farmer policy and intentions.”
Ranaut faced significant backlash from farmer organizations and a range of politicians who condemned her statements. Consequently, the BJP distanced itself from her claims, reprimanding her for overstepping her authority on policy matters. Kangana later softened her stance, asserting she is not “crazy or stupid” to assume she holds the final voice within her party, acknowledging the backlash she faced.
