Kahaani 2 Movie Review
Vidya Has Simply Nailed it with her stellar performance
This Friday you have a solo release which comes in the form of Kahaani 2: Durga Rani Singh, which happens to be the sequel of Kahaani released in the year 2011. The film is directed by Sujoy Ghosh, while it is produced by Jayantilal Gada in association with the director himself under the banner of Boundscript Motion Pictures and Pen India Ltd. The film has Vidya Balan in lead role along with Arjun Rampal as well in the lead man. The others in the supporting role include Naisha Khanna, Jugal Hansraj, Tota Roychoudhury, Kharaj Mukherjee, Kaushik Sen and Manini Chadha. The film is written by the director himself and unlike the previous film, he is all set to set fire on screen with the sequel.
Meet Vidya Sinha played by Vidya Balan who has her daughter called Mini who all live peacefully in the sleepy town of Chandan Nagore. The whole life of Vidya revolves around Mini while she remained Vidya’s greatest joys and thus loves to do with the girl her daily chores like playing storytelling, doing other things together. However, life has its own plan and soon her daughter Mini is kidnapped and while trying to find her lost daughter Vidya meets with a terrible accident landing her in a state of coma at a hospital. When Inspector Inderjeet Singh played by Arjun Rampal arrives at the hospital in a response to the hit and run case, he barely knew that the case would take a sharp turn with a number of events at the backdrop. As he investigates, he discovers a fact that Vidya Sinha has a dark past of Durga Rani Singh who is a 36-year-old most WANTED criminal who is on a run for Kidnapping and Murder. What really follows is an edge of the seat suspense drama wherein Vidya who is seen in the state of coma is running against time to save her daughter and Inderjeet and she tries to solve the case of Vidya Sinha’s mysterious past. So, what happens next is interesting to catch with.
As you check the prequel and sequel, there is a huge difference between the two are the two are poles apart. At one end you find a lady with revenge in her mind to finish her enemies who were behind the murder of her husband and her child and now we have a lady who is a criminal who has kidnapped and murdered someone and happens to be a most wanted criminal of the town. She is leading her life with a new name in a slow and dying place simply to hide her identity. Thus with a lost connection between the two film begins with a new thrill but soon suffers with breaking of sequences at one confusing the audience at some other point of time becoming predictable at the other end. In other words, the thrill or mystery elements become predictable that really hampers the feature of the movie. There are some other flaws as well, which defines the way the character was designed which is basically grey but it has all the elements of white in it that mars the entertainment value. In a sense the film has lost the gleam, which could be due to the missing links that hampers the show.
Let’s start with Vidya Balan, she is exceptionally talented and similar is the story with her performance. Once again Vidya has nailed the character which defines her as one of the best and stellar performer over the silver screen. She has come a long way to play one of the best performance over the silver screen for a movie which she loved a lot. Now, talking about Arjun Rampal, his performance in the role of a police officer is decent but not that par as expected in the film. The others too played a decent role in the movie, as they too have helped the film to gain a better entertainment value with their performances.
Direction, Music, and other elements
The direction is good but there seems to some flaws, which may appear trivial yet has hampered the entertainment value of the film. Unlike the prequel, the film somewhere breaks down yet manages to stands up thanks to the stellar performance of the lady Vidya in the character of a fugitive lady who happens to be a murderer. Well, talking about the music, its soothing to a great extent and similar is the case with some of its tracks that really touches the soul and heart of the listener. The other elements like screenplay, editing and other technical elements seemed okay and in a way have helped to boost the entertainment value of the film.
Kahaani 2 The Last Word
The film Kahaani 2 has a decent story backed with rich content that can be hard to get with such a stellar performance. This is the reason why more and more applauds seems to have come for the film as the people realize that it was Vidya only who can make the difference. Well, it is a worthy watch for the fans of Vidya Balan and also for others considering catching up some real time thrill in the movie.
