John Abraham’s The Diplomat Set for Netflix Premiere on May 9: Reports

John Abraham’s highly anticipated film, The Diplomat, is finally gearing up for its digital premiere. Recent reports indicate that the film is scheduled to release on Netflix on May 9, 2025. While an official announcement from the streaming platform or the production house is still pending, the buzz surrounding the film’s OTT debut has already piqued the interest of fans. However, the journey to a digital release was not without its challenges. In a recent interview with Pinkvilla, John candidly discussed the initial hurdles The Diplomat faced in securing an OTT platform. He revealed that the film was rejected by several platforms early on.
“The loss of faith happens from the studio…when some OTT channels have refused The Diplomat because they didn’t find it great. They rejected the film; they threw it out,” he explained.Despite these setbacks, the film ultimately managed to turn the tide and prove critics wrong. John expressed his satisfaction, stating, “In the case of The Diplomat, we have proved the studio wrong, the OTTs wrong, and everyone wrong. The best thing about The Diplomat…is that expectations were zero. So, going from zero to a 10, people are like, ‘Oh, wow, this is crazy’.”This upcoming Netflix release adds to John Abraham’s impressive portfolio of films based on true stories, following titles like Madras Cafe and Batla House
The Diplomat is expected to deliver a fresh and gripping narrative centered on the unsung heroes of Indian diplomacy. Featuring John in the role of Indian diplomat J.P. Singh, the film is inspired by real events and explores critical diplomatic missions that shaped India’s international relations during tense global moments. Co-starring Sadia Khateeb in a pivotal role, the film promises an intense blend of politics, strategy, and emotion rooted in actual incidents. As audiences eagerly await official confirmation, The Diplomat is shaping up to be a compelling watch for fans of political dramas with real-world relevance.
