‘Ghamasaan’ Review: Strong Performances by Arshad Warsi and Pratik Gandhi Undermined by Outdated Script

Movie – Ghamasaan

User Rating: 2.5

Directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia, Ghamasaan pairs Arshad Warsi and Pratik Gandhi in a high-stakes crime drama set in the dusty, lawless landscape of Bundelkhand. Despite standout lead performances and authentic atmospheric world-building, the film ultimately stumbles under the weight of a thin plot and formulaic writing.

Plot and Lead Performances

The narrative centers on a simple cat-and-mouse chase between Maharaaj (Arshad Warsi), a feared dacoit ruling Bundelkhand through political and police collusion, and Aditya (Pratik Gandhi), an upright Special Task Force officer determined to bring him down.

Arshad Warsi: Breaking away from his typical comedic roles, Warsi delivers a menacing performance marked by a authentic Bundeli dialect and a commanding physical presence.

Pratik Gandhi: Playing the stoic officer, Gandhi grounds the narrative with controlled intensity, avoiding over-the-top cop tropes. The dynamic between the two leads provides the film’s most engaging moments.

Supporting Cast: Rajpal Yadav and Ishita Dutta offer adequate support, though their characters remain thinly written plot devices.

Direction, Technical Aspects, and Narrative Flaws

While director Tigmanshu Dhulia initially establishes a convincing, gritty atmosphere, the film struggles to sustain its momentum in the second half. The script relies heavily on familiar genre tropes, including corrupt officials, predictable betrayals, and forced rustic dialogue, rather than exploring deeper themes of caste, power, and state authority.

Action sequences lean toward chaotic rather than tense, and the overarching conflict feels small-scale for a grand crime saga. On a positive note, the film’s music provides a well-timed, effective breather between high-strung scenes.

Final Verdict

Despite strong efforts from Warsi and Gandhi, Ghamasaan feels like a redundant throwback to 1990s gangster cinema. Weak narrative depth and lazy writing ultimately prevent the film from delivering a memorable impact, leaving it a routine crime drama elevated only by its lead actors.
