It appears that Aditya Dhar’s next fantasy action film and his dream project ‘The Immortal Ashwatthama’ is also following the faith of the character on whom the film is based- Ashwatthama. An eternal mythological character that cannot die nor enjoy life like a normal human being.
According to recent media reports ‘The Immortal Ashwatthama’ has been shelved again for the time being with the hope of reviving it again in the future. It means this film will neither see the light of day nor be entirely shelved forever.
Meanwhile, due to casting and other technicalities that have been ongoing for the past three years, producers have suffered a Rs. 30 crore loss in the pre-production stage of ‘The Immortal Ashwatthama’ hence they decided to shelve the project for time being.
After the film’s production company changed from Ronnie Screwvala to Jio Studios due to a budget increase, Jio Studios dropped Vicky Kaushal because they believed he couldn’t handle such an expensive project, and then approached NTR Jr, Yash, and Ranveer Singh.
According to the most recent Pinkvilla story, NTR Jr, Yash, and even Ranveer Singh have decided to withdraw from the project. According to a source close to Pinkvilla, Dhar contacted NTR Jr. and Yash to lead his project because of the two stars’ immense fan base in pan-India flicks. However, neither actor expressed a desire to be a part of the superhero genre.
Finally, Dhar approached Ranveer, who expressed interest at first but had to choose between ‘The Immortal Ashwatthama’ and his other superhero project- Shaktimaan. According to reports, he chose the latter. There have also been media speculations that the creators had approached Ram Charan and Shah Rukh Khan for the title part, but there has been no news on their response to the script as of yet. Makers are also completely tight-lipped about all the speculations going on in media about the film’s casting.
