Imtiaz Ali Voices Support for Diljit Dosanjh Amid Sardaar Ji 3 Controversy

The film has faced backlash due to the casting of Pakistani actress Hania Aamir as the leading lady, prompting the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) to issue a statement condemning both the actor and the film’s producers.
Imtiaz Ali, who recently collaborated with Diljit on the Netflix film Amar Singh Chamkila, shared his thoughts in an interview with NDTV regarding his experience with the artist. He stated, “I can’t comment much on the controversy, but I can say that Diljit is filled with the spirit of patriotism. He is a son of the soil. At all his concerts, he proudly showcases the Indian flag.”
He emphasized that Diljit’s patriotic fervor is not merely a performance but an authentic aspect of his character. “He is not someone who engages in fakeness. He does nothing insincere. At the end of all his concerts, he declares, ‘Main hoon Punjab’ (I am Punjab), while holding the Indian flag.”
Addressing the backlash and the complexities of casting decisions, Imtiaz noted, “I don’t know the specifics, but casting someone isn’t solely the actor’s decision. I understand that Diljit has immense love for his country… Those who can see the truth within him will recognize this.”
The controversy escalated when FWICE called for action against Diljit Dosanjh, criticizing the film’s production team for collaborating with a Pakistani actress amid ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan.
