Khalnayak Returns Launch: Sanjay Dutt Teases ‘Vaastav 2’ and Makes a Public Plea for ‘Munna Bhai 3’

The iconic world of Ballu Balram is set to return. In a high-profile event in Mumbai, Sanjay Dutt, alongside Subhash Ghai, Aksha Kamboj (Executive Chairperson of Aspect Global), and Jyoti Deshpande of Jio Studios, officially announced Khalnayak Returns. The sequel to the 1993 cult classic will be produced under Dutt’s banner, Three Dimension Motion Pictures.

Beyond the announcement of Khalnayak Returns, the event turned into a nostalgic journey through Dutt’s most legendary roles, sparking excitement for other potential sequels.

Sequels on the Horizon: ‘Vaastav 2’ and ‘Munna Bhai’

When asked about the future of his other career-defining characters—Raghu from Vaastav and the lovable Murli Prasad Sharma from Munna Bhai MBBS—Sanjay Dutt shared some major updates:

Vaastav 2: Dutt officially confirmed that development is underway, stating, “We are working on Vaastav 2.”

Munna Bhai 3: While the actor is eager, he noted that the ball is in director Rajkumar Hirani’s court. Addressing the filmmaker directly, Dutt made a lighthearted appeal: “Raju, please make Munna Bhai again!”

Behind the Scenes: The Making of an Actor

Subhash Ghai took a moment to reflect on Dutt’s transformation from a reluctant newcomer to a dedicated artist. Recalling their first collaboration on Vidhaata (1982), Ghai shared that a young Sanjay was more interested in riding motorcycles than acting.

However, Ghai observed a significant shift in Dutt’s craft during the early 90s with films like Sadak and Saajan. By the time Khalnayak was conceived, Ghai knew he had found his lead, despite several other stars expressing interest in the role.

A Matter of Trust

The event also highlighted the deep bond between the director and his star. Ghai recalled narrating the story of Khalnayak to Dutt, but the actor quickly corrected him with a laugh, revealing the simplicity of their partnership:

“Subhash ji, you never narrated the story. You just told me, ‘You have to do this film!’ and I said, ‘Sir, I trust you.’”

With Khalnayak Returns now official and Vaastav 2 in the works, fans of the “Original Bad Boy” of Bollywood have plenty to look forward to as these legendary characters prepare for a modern-day comeback.
