Housefull 5: A Star-Studded Affair with Notable Casting Changes
Released on Friday, Housefull 5 has quickly become one of the biggest multi-starrers in Hindi cinema, receiving a positive reception that was reflected in its strong hold on Monday. The film boasts an impressive ensemble cast of nearly 19 major actors, including Akshay Kumar, Abhishek A. Bachchan, Riteish Deshmukh, Jacqueline Fernandez, Sonam Bajwa, Nargis Fakhri, Sanjay Dutt, Jackie Shroff, Nana Patekar, Chitrangada Singh, Fardeen Khan, Chunky Pandey, Johnny Lever, Shreyas Talpade, Dino Morea, Ranjeet, Soundarya Sharma, Nikitin Dheer, and Akashdeep Sabir. Producer Sajid Nadiadwala initially envisioned an even larger star cast.
According to Bollywood Hungama, two iconic actors, Anil Kapoor and Amitabh Bachchan, were also approached for roles in Housefull 5. A source revealed, “The original plan was to cast Anil Kapoor and Nana Patekar as the cops, bringing a Uday-Majnu-style banter to the film. However, Anil declined the offer, leading Sajid Nadiadwala to cast Sanjay Dutt and Jackie Shroff in those roles instead. This combination works well since they both starred in Khal Nayak (1993).”
Regarding Amitabh Bachchan, he was offered the role of a senior cop but respectfully declined, likely due to his age and selective approach to roles. With Nana already part of the cast, he was given the senior cop role originally intended for Bachchan.
Reports from last year indicated that Anil Kapoor turned down the role due to remuneration issues. Additionally, there are speculations that Boman Irani was also offered a part, particularly the recurring role of Batook Patel. This character has appeared in all Housefull films except for Housefull 4 (2019), where Johnny Lever took on the role. In Housefull 5, Lever portrayed the Gujarati character, continuing the franchise’s comedic legacy.
