Heeramandi: Sharmin Segal Faces Backlash for Interrupting Sanjeeda Sheikh During Interview Amid Nepotism Accusations

The Netflix series ‘Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar’ has become a hot topic of discussion on social media, with actresses like Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, and Sanjeeda Sheikh receiving rave reviews. However, Sharmin Segal, one of the cast members, seems to be facing criticism. While the show itself has been praised for its stunning sets and aesthetics, audiences have heavily criticized Sharmin for her acting skills. Moreover, she is now being trolled for her behavior during interviews, particularly for interrupting her co-stars.
A video of Sharmin interrupting Aditi Rao Hydari during one of their promotional interviews for ‘Heeramandi’ went viral, causing a stir. Another video that caught attention was an interaction between Sharmin, Sanjeeda Sheikh, and Richa Chadha for Showsha. When Sanjeeda was asked about her experience working with Sanjay Leela Bhansali, she praised the filmmaker for his dedication and perfectionism. However, Sharmin interrupted her and referred to Sanjeeda as an “outsider.” This remark did not sit well with netizens, who criticized Sharmin for her privileged background, being related to Sanjay Leela Bhansali, and even suggested that she should focus on improving her acting skills before disrespecting her more experienced co-stars.
The video, shared with the caption “Sharmin gives out such mean girl energy,” sparked a barrage of negative comments directed at Sharmin. Comments ranged from pointing out her lack of expressions to questioning why she always tries to one-up her colleagues. Netizens highlighted instances where she seemingly overshadowed Aditi Rao Hydari and now Sanjeeda Sheikh, both of whom are considered to possess more experience, finesse, and talent. Some users expressed their disappointment with the way Sharmin disrespected her senior co-star. One comment read, “Sanjeeda is her senior, and the way she disrespects her… I am just stunned.” Amidst the backlash Sharmin Segal has been facing, her uncle Sanjay Leela Bhansali and the casting director of ‘Heeramandi,’ Shruti Mahajan, have come to her defense.

They assert that Sharmin earned her place in the web series based on her merits and talent. Despite the mixed reception, ‘Heeramandi’ continues to generate buzz, and the performances of the other actresses are being widely appreciated. The show’s success lies in its captivating storyline and the brilliant performances of the ensemble cast.
