Sourabh Raaj Jain Sounds Alarm as Supreme Court’s Narrowed Aravalli Definition Raises Environmental Concerns

Actor Sourabh Raaj Jain, known for his outspoken stance on social and environmental issues, has raised serious concerns over the Supreme Court’s recent decision to adopt a narrower definition of the Aravalli Hills. Sharing a detailed post on social media after reviewing reports and videos on the matter, he warned that this change could strip legal protection from nearly 90% of the Aravalli landscape.
Expressing his distress, Sourabh wrote, “Hope it is NOT what it seems to be,” tagging relevant authorities and urging citizens to stay vigilant. He emphasized that ignoring this issue could lead to a long-term ecological crisis. The Aravalli Hills, one of the world’s oldest mountain ranges, have been crucial in protecting the Delhi-NCR region from desertification, extreme heat, and severe pollution.
The new Supreme Court criteria classify a landform as part of the Aravalli only if it rises at least 100 meters above the surrounding terrain. Environmentalists argue this standard is scientifically flawed and drastically shrinks the protected area, exposing much of the region to potential environmental degradation.
Sourabh echoed these fears, highlighting that the revised definition might open the door for renewed mining and construction activities in previously protected zones. Many lower ridges, despite not meeting the 100-meter mark, play vital roles in groundwater recharge, dust storm prevention, and local climate regulation.
Best known for his work in television and digital media, including his recent role in Tu Dhadkan Main Dil, Sourabh Raaj Jain joined a growing chorus of environmentalists and activists calling on authorities to reconsider the ruling. They warn that the decisions made today could have lasting consequences for the ecological health of North India for generations to come.
