First day box office collection of Mr Joe B Carvalho

Comedies have had a good run on the box office recently. But chances seem bleak for Arshad Warsi and Soha ali Khan’s Mr. Joe B. Carvalho that released today. It is the first release of the year 2014. With the reactions that it got across the country it can be inferred that the film has not been received well by the audience. RaamLeela and Dhoom3 attracted huge crowd at the theaters at the New Year’s Eve. But the same response was not seen for the Arshad Warsi starrer comedy in which he plays the title role. Its response in the single screen theaters and in small towns were meager and it was out and out a dull show. It was only in the big cities and multiplexes that the film received a considerable turnout. But the response by the viewers were grossly against it. The film failed to please the audience.

Dhoom 3, that continued its handsome run in the third week too, was still seen to be preferred by the young and the elderly masses alike. Mr. Joe B. Carvalho registered an overall occupancy of just over 30% which is a below average performance by a film. Arshad Warsi is considered its sole USP for he is a nationally acclaimed actor. Soha Ali Khan appears in the film after long break. Javed Jaffery is the other notable star. But the film is reportedly low on the comic quotient and fails to make the audience laugh. The new year celebrations are still on and the film being a comedy rested on the expectations of pulling good public but after its first day show the film is already termed a flop. A modest collection of 3.46 crores was recorded nationwide on the first day.
The reactions from eminent critics have been highly unfavorable. With the newspapers carrying their experts’ reviews on Saturday, the film ‘s fate will be decided for the coming week.
