Anand is one of the cult films of the early 70s. The film has a separate fan base that is why, when Sameer Raj Sippy announced the remake of his grandfather N.C. Sippy’s 1971 hit drama fans started trolling him. 1971 released Anand starred Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan in the lead roles.
Vikram Khakhar will co-produce the remake, which will be set in the post-Covid era. According to the producers, the film is currently in the scripting stage, and a director has yet to be chosen. Hrishikesh Mukherjee directed the original film, which tells the story of a man who refuses to accept the truth of his impending death and delivers an empowering message of optimism and harmony.
When asked about remaking the cult classic, producer Sameer Raj Sippy stated that he believes stories like these should be told to a new generation. In a statement, he added, “Keeping in mind the sensibilities of the original film and the emotions attached, I feel the current generation needs to be re-told the many stories that are so relevant today, especially when there is a great appetite for good content.”
Fans, however, did like the idea as soon as the news of Amitabh Bachchan’s Anand’s remake came fans started reacting to it. Reposting a news article, a social media user wrote, “No one can match #Anand .The characters were amazing and all actors did such an amazing job. How will you find another Rajesh Khanna , Johnny Walker ,Lalita Pawar ,Ramesh Deo? How will anyone make and replace those soulful songs ?Please don’t spoil the film”.
Others wrote, “#anand shouldn’t not be remade! Leave the #classics alone,” and, “No please”. A Twitter user seemed worried, as they wrote, “Now they are going to ruin a masterpiece like anand. what’s next,sholay? You know what i am not giving them more ideas.”
