Fans Disheartened as Multiple Dil Chahta Hai Screenings Get Cancelled at Aamir Khan Film Festival

Aamir Khan recently celebrated his 60th birthday, and to mark this special occasion, an Aamir Khan Film Festival was held in cinemas nationwide. The festival featured the re-release of 22 of his most memorable films, including Dangal, 3 Idiots, Lagaan, Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke, Raja Hindustani, Ghajini, Akele Hum Akele Tum, Andaz Apna Apna, Taare Zameen Par, Sarfarosh, Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar, Talaash, Fanaa, Dil Chahta Hai, Dil, PK, Dhoom 3, Rang De Basanti, Ghulam, Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Secret Superstar, and Laal Singh Chaddha.
Among these films, Dil Chahta Hai was particularly anticipated due to its comic moments, cult following, and memorable music. Unfortunately, the film did not receive the expected screening time across the country, disappointing many fans.
According to Bollywood Hungama, although tickets for Dil Chahta Hai were available on booking apps, the film was not shown during the first two days of the festival due to the KDM not being issued. A few screenings occurred on Sunday afternoon, but the demand far exceeded the supply, leading to refunds for those who had booked tickets. In some locations, other Aamir Khan classics like Taare Zameen Par were screened instead, but most patrons opted for refunds rather than alternative films. The lack of screenings resulted in few social media videos of fans enjoying iconic songs like ‘Koi Kahe Kehta Rahe’ or ‘Woh Ladki Hai Kahaan,’ unlike the vibrant atmosphere seen with songs from films like Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and Kal Ho Naa Ho.
As of now, Dil Chahta Hai has no scheduled showings during the weekdays, but fans are hopeful for its return next weekend. The Aamir Khan festival is set to run until March 27. An industry insider noted that not only Dil Chahta Hai but also 3 Idiots are no longer playing, while lesser-demand films continue to have multiple showings. Critics suggest that better planning could have ensured that high-demand films received daily screenings. Meanwhile, Andaz Apna Apna will have a full release in April, as confirmed by Priti Sinha, daughter of its producer Vinay Sinha.
