Fan discover an unseen photo of Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor from SLB’s set 18 years ago
Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor’s fans have recently discovered a photograph of the two that no one has ever seen before. Alia has previously stated that she once gave a screen test for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s shelved film Balika Vadhu. Alia was 11 years old at the time, and she worked alongside Ranbir (then 20), who was an assistant director on Bhansali’s Black. She further mentioned how Bhansali framed the photo and gave it to her as a present, which has particular importance now that she is married to Ranbir.
Though neither Alia nor Ranbir shared the photo with the fans, they appear to have discovered it on their own.
Alia posted a video on her YouTube account on Saturday about her 30-day Gangubai Kathiawadi promotion. Fans observed the Balika Vadhu screen test photo on a shelf at Alia’s house in one of the scenes. The video has already been pulled off her channel, but clever fans have already taken screenshots.
Ranbir appears in the centre of the black-and-white photograph, with a young Alia laying her head on his shoulder. She looks to be dressed in a saree. While fans were able to see the photo for the first time, others were concerned by their significant age difference and the fact that Alia was ‘actually a child’ when the shot was taken. Balika Vadhu, on the other hand, was meant to be about child weddings.

During a promotional event for her 2014 film Highway, Alia talked about the project and the filming. Bhansali, she said, had noted particular chemistry with her even back then. “Bhansali sir was saying I was flirting with Ranbir,” she said.
Ranbir also talked about the same at the Lokmat Maharashtrian of the Year Awards in 2017. He said “Not many people know that Alia and me were actually going to debut together when Sanjay Ji was making a film called Balika Vadhu. We had also done a photoshoot together and since then, I have been a fan of her.”
Alia replied, “Yes, what he’s saying is correct. When I met Ranbir for the first time, I was 11-years-old. He was assisting Sanjay Leela Bhansali and I had to do a photoshoot with him. And I was so shy that I had to keep my head on his shoulder and I could not do it.”
On Ayan Mukerji’s Brahmastra, Alia and Ranbir got to work together for the first time. They fell in love in 2017, dated for five years, and married on April 14 in an intimate ceremony at their Mumbai home.
