Dharmendra reminisces Bollywood’s Nightingale Lata Mangeshkar on Zee TV’s SaReGaMa

Recently Bollywood veteran actor Dharmendra happened to appear on Zee TV’s SaReGaMa show as a celebrity guest. In this show, one of its contestants sang a song of Lata Mangeshkar which made Dharmendra emotional in the legendary singer’s memory.

Reminiscing about the late Lata Mangeshkar, Dharmendra said, “I am fortunate enough that legendary singer like Lata ji was always a phone call away from me and whenever she found my tweet or Instagram posts sad, she used to call me up and sing for me to lighten up my mood. But it breaks my heart today that she is unfortunately not between us anymore.”
Earlier, after the sad demise of the legendary singer, Dharmendra had shared several moments of his with Lata Mangeshkar during a chat with Aaj Tak. He said, “When I got to know that she would sing for me in Anpadh – Aap Ki Nazron Ne Samjha – I was ecstatic. I thought who should I tell. I wrote letters to everyone one that Lata Didi would sing for me. I went to Mehboob studio to see her sing. Years later, she said that when Dharmendra ji came to meet me he was wearing a beige shirt. We would talk a lot, especially in the last few years. it felt that she wanted to run away from loneliness.”

To the unversed, Lata Mangeshkar died on 6th February at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital, where she had been admitted for the previous 28 days. Dr Pratit Samdani, the veteran singer’s doctor, released a statement revealing that Lata didi died of multiple organ failure. The statement read, “It is with profound grief that we announce the sad demise of #LataMangeshkar at 8:12 am. She has died because of multi-organ failure after more than 28 days of hospitalization post COVID19.”
