After Uri: The Surgical Strike, the actor Vicky Kaushal is back again with another firebrand theme film called Sardar Udham Singh. The film happens to be a biopic, which is based on the life of a freedom fighter Sardar Udham Singh. For those who do not know Sardar Udham Singh, he is the same man who killed General O Dwyer in 1940 the man who carried out the massacre of Jallianwala Bagh in 1919. He was later hanged in July 1940. He was a member of Ghadar Party.
As per the latest update, a film on Sardar Udham Singh is made and the director of the film is Shoojit Sircar while the story of the film is written by Ritesh Shah and Shubendu Bhattacharya. Earlier the makers wanted Irrfan Khan to do this role, however, they had to replace the actor with Uri actor due to his prolonged illness and treatment for a neuroendocrine tumour in London. The makers have released the first still poster of the film where we see the actor in an overcoat and around him we see the vintage cars along with a Russian woman also seen in the same frame.
While talking about the first look poster of the film, the director said that he sensed the fire and anger in the eyes of Vicky Kaushal that made him cast this actor. The director informed that the film is based on the life of Udham Singh and his life and particularly the event that killed too many Indian in Punjab. He said that he had researched a lot about it and has therefore tried to showcase it over the silver screen with this film. He further said that since Vicky hails from Punjab and hence he was the apt choice. The makers are now shooting the film in St Petersburg
Vicky has even shared one video of the city and even talked about it. He said since this is his first-period film hence he had to work extra to get into the environment and feel the characters along with the history associated with it. He said the Russians simply love India and also loved Raj Kapoor, Big B, and other actors. He said he loves singing the songs like Jimmy Jimmy from the film Disco Dancer, which is popular here. The film is expected to hit the screens in 2020.
