Indian Audience is very unusual, they were always given surprise verdict with time to time. It was firmly proved since the time of Mother India that an actress can’t carry a film on her shoulders to make big Hit at Box Office. Now in modern city type audience in a multiplex arena and public want some fresh things for the movies, a lot of women-centric films have hit at cinemas, but few of them have even fared well at the box office. Most of the women-centric films that opened big at the box office were the ones that had the X factor such as Super Hit Music or Bold Scenes. Hate Story 3 surprised everyone with close to 10 Cr opening though that movie had Super Hit Music and it’s not completely women orientric movie. Again, Vidya Balan’s The Dirty Picture which opens tremendously at Box Office with over 9 Cr opening thanks to that Oh La La…Oh La La..song which was a rage all over India but that also not a complete women orientric movie. Madhur Bhandarkar’s Heroine released in 2012 which stars Kareena Kapoor Khan somehow opened at over 7 Cr but still it had one known face actor such as Arjun Rampal.
But when we come to the talks of Real Orientric Female Movie where no known supporting cast Actor was there or which doesn’t have main role appeal then most of the films finds very tough to cross even 5 Cr net mark as per opening department is concerned. Recently, Rani Mukherjee’s Hichki opens at 3.30 Crores net.
Even Anushka Sharma’s First movie after marriage Pari took only 4.36 Crores net opening.
Deepika Padukone’s Piku which was a 5 Crore Net plus opener was not complete female orientric film at all.
Again, Taapsee Pannu’s Naam Shabana took 5.12 Crores net opening but this opening came due to Akshay Kumar’s Guest Role appearance.
So the real value of Exclusive Female orientric movie came only once that’s Priyanka Chopra’s Mary Kom which took a huge 8 Crores plus opening and it was a complete non commercial without any known face actor. Though Mary Kom was given tax free status in a few states but that hardly helps. This is a huge opening for a women centric film without any commercial song is fantabulous and till now no film has manage to break this record.
But now trade seems that the record can be broken by this week’s big release Raazi. Alia Bhatt is the one actress and is directed Meghna Gulzar. Dharma Productions is one of the co-producers of this film which is adapted from the true account of an Indian spy. The trailer of the film has been truly loved and it seems to have a city type appeal. The main minus point for the Raazi trailer is mainly masses who might stay away from this type of thriller films where no main known male actor is there in the movie. But Trade feels Raazi has the action along with the patriotism angle and hence they would surely come in hordes to cinemas. Alia Bhatt as the leading lady and she has a carved a niche for herself. She is one of the most popular actresses today. She is equally responsible for the success of her films. Breaking the first day collection of Mary Kom is still a big task but looking at the trailer, Raazi has very thin chance. And if that happens, Alia Bhatt would not only add one more record in her kitty but would also rewrite the Box Office numbers.
