Box Office Collection: Kangana Ranaut’s Thalaivii collects 1.25 cr at the BO

Kangana Ranaut finally came out with her ambitious project Thalaivii after facing many roadblocks. All because of the Covid pandemic.

Kangana Ranaut’s film is based on J Jayalalithaa released on the silver screen this Friday. The film shows the story of late actress turned politician Jayalalithaa, who served as the chief minister of Tamil Nadu for more than 14 years between 1991 and 2016. The film opened to a mixed response from the critics and the film underperformed at the Box Office.

According to boxofficeindia.com, since the film got screened in very few theatres due to covid restrictions the all-India collection for Thalaivii on the first day, i.e. Friday, is Rs 1.25 crore.

Their report also suggested that the film had a low opening day in the Hindi market. Thalaivii grossed around 20-25 lakhs net on day 1. Since the film didn’t get released in the national chains due to the conflict between the chain owners and the film’s producers. The film stands at 3.05 cr nett on day two. According to the analytics the biopic is expected to do close 2.5 cr nett on Sunday.

The film’s box office performance in Tamil Nadu was better, with a net collection of almost Rs 80 lakh. The film had tough competition from the Telugu film Seetimarr, which limited its success in Andhra Pradesh due to the dominance of the local cinema.

Thalaivii is directed by AL Vijay. Apart from Kangana the film also stars Arvind Swami as MG Ramachandran in the lead, along with Nassar, Bhagyashree, Raj Arjun, Madhoo, Jisshu Sengupta, Thambi Ramaiah, Shamna Kasim and Samutharikani.
