Positive Reviews, Poor Performance! Bollywood movies that failed to make a mark in theatres despite good content

Bollywood movies are kind of unpredictable! We never know what will work and what won’t when it comes to the film’s success. Times have changed, and the taste of the audience matters. We approve of the fact that “Content is King” and that good content works to a greater extent in creating an impact among the audience. But it doesn’t happen all the time. Viewers frequently fail to recognise some excellent films, which causes them to flop before gradually gaining a fanbase and making their way to underrated offerings.

Today, we bring you a list of such Bollywood movies with amazing plots that gained impressive reviews, but failed to draw a crowd in theatres and flopped miserably.

1. Laal Singh Chaddha

Who would forget what happened with Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha? That tremendous boycott and protest all over the country became one of the reasons several moviegoers didn’t watch it in theatres. It garnered positive reviews from critics, but even positive word-of-mouth couldn’t stand against boycott trends.

When the film was released on OTT, it was well received by the audience, and some users regretted not watching it in theatres.

2. An Action Hero

An Action Hero, starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Jaydeep Ahlawat, came with an interesting storyline and impressed the film critics. However, it couldn’t mint enough money to avoid being called a flop movie. Therefore, it is included in the list of such Bollywood movies in 2022.

3. Vikram Vedha

Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan’s Vikram Vedha certainly had a bad fate. The film, despite having an outstanding cast, a laudable plot, and incredible direction by director Pushkar Gayatri, failed to make a profit at the box office. When the film was released, the whole HD version was leaked on several websites and was available to download. Furthermore, the film was up against Ponniyin Selvan by renowned director Mani Ratnam. This is another reason that affected the collection of Vikram Vedha, like other Bollywood movies with good content.

4. Jersey

Shahid Kapoor was certain that Jersey would be a hit in theatres. The actor even stopped its direct digital debut and delayed the release date to make it available in theatres. However, when it was released, the film couldn’t manage to collect profitable amounts at the box office. The film, which also stars actress Mrunal Thakur, received immense praise after its OTT release.

5. Mili

Mili is one of Sridevi’s daughter Janhvi Kapoor’s best performances to date. In this spine-chilling drama, her character gets stuck in cold storage and struggles to survive. It was released along with Double XL and Phone Bhoot. The clash between the three movies didn’t provide a favourable crowd in theatres or Milli. Made with a budget of 40 crores, it could only collect 3.50 crores worldwide, making it a huge box-office disaster. It was acknowledged by the audience when it recently made its digital debut.
