Firoz Nadiadwala Plans Multi-Franchise ‘Family Universe’ Featuring Hera Pheri, Welcome, and More

Producer Firoz Nadiadwala has revealed exciting plans to create a cinematic Family Universe that will unite sequels, prequels, and fresh editions of some of Bollywood’s most beloved franchises. Speaking to Mid-Day, Nadiadwala said, “There are cop, horror, and spy universes, but after years of effort, we’ve built a universe spanning all genres specially for family audiences. We’re working on sequels and prequels of Aan: Men at Work (2004), Awara Paagal Deewana, Deewane Huye Paagal (2005), along with new installments of the Welcome and Hera Pheri franchises.
”He added, “There will also be brand-new movies. All films will be clean, larger-than-life, and perfect for families. That’s why I call it the ‘Family Universe,’ which will feature both veteran and fresh actors, with crossover characters connecting the stories.” Fans can look forward to seeing familiar faces from classic hits alongside new talent, all linked through an interconnected universe. This announcement comes shortly after reports of Nadiadwala sending a legal notice to streaming giant Netflix over the alleged unauthorized use of Baburao Ganpatrao Apte, the iconic character immortalized by Paresh Rawal.
Advocate Sana Raees Khan, representing Nadiadwala, issued a strong statement on the matter: “Intellectual Property is not a matter of casual borrowing; it is the lifeblood of creativity. Unauthorized exploitation of my client’s iconic character is not just infringement; it is theft in its most blatant commercial form. The law will not permit dilution of rights that have been lawfully earned and zealously protected.”
While Nadiadwala has yet to comment publicly on the Netflix dispute, this legal move highlights his determination to safeguard the legacy of the cult comedy series. Paresh Rawal’s Baburao, alongside Akshay Kumar as Raju and Suniel Shetty as Shyam, continues to be one of Bollywood’s most beloved comic trios, with Hera Pheri (2000) and Phir Hera Pheri (2006) maintaining cult status among fans.
